Ecover Cleaning Products

I believe you can't "go green" overnight. There are years upon years of "non green" habits which we need to change. I want to start using eco friendly cleaning products for a couple of reasons. Firstly, the impact of the environment and secondly, I am concerned about the level of toxins that we use/come into contact with on a daily basis.

My first change, which I could make over night was cleaning products. Thankfully a few of my everyday cleaning products were almost used up. I have chosen to start with Ecover Multi - Action Spray, Fabric Conditioner and Multi-Action Wipes.
I became aware of Ecover products when I started researching into a more "green" way of living. Their products are available in most supermarkets which on this occasion has made it easier for me. Moving forward I would like to find a one-stop ethical superstore online which I can buy beauty and cleaning products alongside food.

About Ecover:

Ecover's company goal is to "promise consumers a washing and cleaning product that is efficient and truly ecological."

They focus heavily on removing nasty toxins from our products, biodegradability, sustainability, not testing on animals and putting back in what they take from nature. They have a range of Zero products for those with sensitive skin and have been approved by Allergy UK.

Ecover Multi - Action Spray:

Upon first use I found the Multi-Action Spray to have ( and to leave) a pleasant smell in the kitchen. The bottle is ergonomically friendly and it sprays with ease. The packaging informs me that it leaves behind no chemical reside, and it can be used on all hard surfaces.
I was previously using Flash Kitchen spray, which I have been using for a few years now.
From a price point of view, the Flash spray is slightly cheaper, but only by 30p ( correct as of 23/01/2015 -- Sainsbury).

The Flash spray contains Limonene, which can cause allergic reactions, Ecover's does not.

Flash is made by P&G, a company which has in the past tested on animals. This has always unsettled me when purchasing their products as I truly believe their is no need for animal testing in beauty/ cleaning products.

Now to what's inside the bottle and how it works. When using Ecover I could not tell the difference between the two. Ecover cleans to the same standard and quite frankly, smells nicer. It cut through tough stains - I am a messy cook, and it cleaned through coffee and tomato stains on my work tops. It cleaned with easy sticky spillages such as pineapple juice and sugar.
The packaging looks nice on my window seal and I can feel content in knowing I am one step closer to helping the environment!

I'm sold - no more flash kitchen spray for me.

Ecover Fabric Conditioner:

When I saw Ecover did a fabric conditioner I grabbed it off the shelf. I have been using Lenor Summer Breeze ( and other scents) for a few years now. I have two major issues with Lenor, firstly the artificial colours in the liquid has made a non removable stain down the front of my white machine washing and secondly it contains an ingredient called " Tetramethyl Acetyloctahydronaphthalenes". Now try saying that!! Upon investigating it appears to be a aroma chemical which causes allergies. I am a big believer in only using/ eating products where you can pronounce the ingredients!
The Ecover fabric conditioner is so easy to review. It has kept all my clothes from underwear to towels sweet smelling and has been soft on my clothes too.

I have found it last longer than the Lenor, as I do not appear to use as much and it has no artificial colours in - hurrah!

Price wise it is slightly more expensive than other brands, but personally I think it is worth it. It can also be refilled - saving money and saving on packaging.

Ecover Multi-Action Wipes (Pomegrante and Lime):

I can not begin to tell you how many cleaning wipes I use. Everyday I will wipes the bathroom down, then every-time I have used the kitchen - be it a cup of coffee or a full dinner. I think I am slightly over the top with cleaning wipes in fact. However because I do use so many of them, I had began to wonder just how many nasty chemicals I was wiping around the house.
I have been using a variety of wipes, the most recent has been Wilko's own brand of lemon fragrance wipes.

The first noticeable difference is the ingredients list - Ecover has far fewer on their list, which is instantly a plus from me

The Ecover wipes smell wonderful when using them, and leave a fresh fragrance in the air of which room I am using them in. They wipe through stains easily and even managed tougher stains such as coffee marks which had been left overnight - a test of the product - not laziness on my behalf!!

The only downside to the Ecover wipes for me was that they are not as thick as the wipes I am used to using. They perform to the same standard but personally, I would prefer the wipes to be slightly thicker.

Overall:

Overall, I am really pleased with the Ecover products I have tried. It has been a successful first step down the eco friendly lifestyle route, and I can not wait to try more products by them.
