As mentioned in my previous post on Ecover products, a lot of my cleaning products where coming to an end. I took this opportunity to shop around online. I am still new to all the online stores selling ethical products and after much searching I decided to try biggreensmile.com
At first glance it is a well laid out and easy to navigate website. It has a huge selection of cleaning, beauty, baby and healthcare products and a great page on "green tips".
I had a rough idea of which products I wanted, but no clue what brands to start with, so I took a gamble, and purchased a mini haul.
My parcel of goodies contained:
- Bio-D Furniture Polish
- D2W Refuse Bags
- Bicarbonate of Soda
- Borax Substitute
- Ecover Washing Up Liquid
- Method Bathroom Cleaner
- Badger Tangerine Breeze Lip Balm
- 2 free samples - Jason Sea Kelp Shampoo and Jason Toothpaste
My shopping came to a total of £21.34.
A big argument people have against "going green" is the cost, and I have to admit some items can be more expensive than the big brand non eco-cleaning products.
To this I personally believe any extra money (if you do wish to spend it) is an invest in your health and the environment.
Having said that, when purchased at the right time, these eco-friendly products don't need to cost more that what you currently pay. The Ecover Washing Up Liquid 1L was £2.25, Fairy Original Washing Up Liquid 870ML is currently £2.00 at Sainsburys.
My biggest spend was the furniture polish at £3.93. I would usually pay between £2-£3 for this in the supermarket, however I have seen such great reviews I just had to try it.
BigGreenSmile also offer anyone who spends over £10 of more (before shipping) 2 free samples to choose from, which I think is a great way of trying before you buy. In addition to this, you can currently find BigGreenSmile on Quidco.
I will certainly be using BigGreenSmile again, I can not fault the service.
